EA new audio format

 • Quote

Post by Artem » Sun Jun 05, 2005 7:33 pm

As you all know from the sticky thread, DI doesn't work with new asf files anymore, so I had no hope making new pbp editor for 2005 products. I don't have a clue about audio formats in general so the only way to make pbp work is to use some external program.

Well, something has come up recently. In EA sponsored editor for FIFA 2005, Creation Center, there is a command-line EA audio converter directly from the main audio guy at EA, Dave Mercier who also wrote DI. It has a pretty good documentation and supports tons of formats (including asfs I assume). I'm sure it can be adapted to do import/export.

There is one catch though, I don't think I can use it just like that. I need to ask either the author of Creation Center, or even EA to use it. What does everybody think?

Depends on the time you have, if you want to do something - do it.
In my opinion NHL2005 is dead so there's nothing needed, but a NBA2005 version would be nice.

Suchy,

anything to make PBP-editing possible is welcome to me! I might even consider buying NHL 2005 (bargain-priced ofcourse)! And if the game doesn't suit me, maybe I can use the new pbp's for NHL 2004. And maybe it will also work for the upcoming NHL 2006.... and further.... and for other EA games.

Well, I get a bit over-enthousiastic, but if you're interested yourself: why not try it? I hope it'll work out somehow. I'm already looking forward to all the pbp-updates.

Greetings,

Marcus.

Would love to see a PBP editor to NHL 2005 and hopefully NHL2006 will have the same audio format, so it wouldn't be hard for you to convert it.
It is also possible that an all new Play-by-play Studio written totally from scratch will be released some day. To remind those of you who have not heard, I put a cross on it prior to NHL 2005 release because the audio format of the new play-by-play files was different than previous years. But it is not as bad as it first looked.
Does that mean that we can expect a nhl2005 pbp editor?

Suggestions for new PBP editor

 • Quote

Post by nerdbox » Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:42 am

I don't know how usefull a NHL 2005 editor would be now. But for the future I would suggest a collection of previously used but not included player names from previous NHL games eg. Alexanderov. They're done by the same announcers and should not sound out of place. In fact, NHL 05 still has the players numbered in the pbp list but no audio files for them.

Trust me, it doesn't work like that. Have you ever tried converting NHL 99 audio into NHL 2004 format? Hughson, then, does not sound anything like how he does now in the game. It sounds completely out of place. Not to mention that EA keeps changing the audio levels and quality on everything. This is all redundant unless EA goes back to their old audio format in NHL 2006 (PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN). But fool around with audio from 2002 and 2003 and try to put it in NHL 2004. You'll see exactly what I mean.

Hi all, hi Artem.
Two years ago you gave me the sources of pbpview so I could add some features for my needs. The project of making 100% russian pbp freezed then
Now we have some new resources but no editor
Please, take a look at this utility by Egorgiy
http://www.kulibin.rhlmod.ru
I don't know whether it is based on sx.exe or not, but still, it may convert asfs to wav (at least).
Are there still any chances to adapt pbpview to the new format?
